GRANNY spike STITCH

What Is the Granny Spike Crochet Stitch?

The Granny Spike uses the traditional three double crochet granny cluster, but, instead of  working the cluster into a chain space, you work the middle double crochet from the cluster into the middle double crochet from the row below, creating a “spike” look to the stitch. This is a simple stitch and should be fairly beginner friendly.

Abbreviations

YO – Yarn Over

REP – Repeat

DC – Double Crochet

CH – Chain

SK – Skip

DC CL – Double Crochet Cluster

ST – Stitch

SP – Space

 

Double Crochet (DC) – YO, insert your hook, YO pull up a loop, YO and pull through 2 loops, YO and pull through remaining two loops.

Double Crochet CLUSTER (DC CL) – Three (3) DC in the same space.

Written Instructions

MULTIPLE: 4 + 1

ROW 1

3 DC in the 5th ch from hook. *CH 1, Sk 3 CH, 3 DC in the next CH. REP from * across. Work 2 DC in last CH space. CH 2. Turn.

ROW 2 

CH 2 counts as a DC. SK the 1st 3 DC. *DC in the next CH-1 SP, 1 spike DC in the center ST of the skipped 3 DC two rows below, DC in the same Ch-1 space, CH 1**, SK 3 DC. REP from * across ending the last REP at **. 1 DC in the top of the turning CH. CH 2. Turn.

ROW 3 

CH 2 counts as dc. SK the 1st DC, spike DC in the 1st skipped DC two rows below, DC in the 1st CH-1 SP. *CH 1, SK 3 DC, 1 DC in the next CH-1 space, spike DC in the center DC of the skipped 3 Dc two rows below, DC in the same CH-1 space. REP from * across, working last set of DC and spike DC in the turning CH-2 space.
